Amazingly this Sherman Tank had been buried on the grounds of a hospital in NY State for 21 years. According to the museum, the Central Islip Psychiatric Center used the Sherman Bulldozer Tank for moving coal and and rail cars on the hospital grounds after WWII. When the museum switched from coal to gas the tank was no longer needed and fell into disrepair. The hospital officials found it was cheaper to bury it on the property than have it hauled away so into the ground it went.
