Fort Ticonderoga Museum

You can visit the Fort Ticonderoga Museum in Fort Ticonderoga, New York on Lake Champlain.

Fort Ticonderoga is a restored Revolutionary War fort on the in a spectacular location on the western shore of Lake Champlain. You can walk around the restored fort grounds where you will see a number of revolutionary war era cannons and awsome views of Lake Champlain and the mountains of Vermont. Indoors is a small museum with revolutionary war artifacts and some naval pieces from the WWII and from the US Carrier USS Ticonderoga.

Weather wise it was absolutely fantastic the day I visited. Tours are conducted by staff in period costume, and on certain days there are reinactments of drilling and battles on the fort grounds. There is a restaurant on the grounds which I did not have a chance to try, but the prices looked fairly reasonable. Call ahead or check the museum's website for details on activities and hours of operation. The fort Ticonderoga Ferry is right near by and even if you don't have to cross over into Vermont, it's worth the fare to take it over and back on foot.
