The early GBU-28 Bunker Busting Bombs were made from modified 8 inch artillery gun barrels. This is the later type which were purpose built for bunker busting. These were used to take out hardened Iraqi command centers during Operation Desert Storm. Amazingly the Watervliet Arsenal design team designed and built the first Bunker Busting Bombs using 8 inch artillery barresl from the M110 self propelled howitzer in less than 3 weeks. That was a pretty amazing effort on their part.
