If you look closely at the overhead views, you will see a ring that runs around the inner perimeter of the halftrack's crew compartment. This ring allows the machine guns to be moved around the body and positioned anywere along the outer hull of the M2 Halftrack.

The White M2 Halftrack is the early version of the US Halftrack. You can distinguish the M2 from the M3 halftrack by looking at the back of the hull, and following the back vertically down to where it meets the tracks. On the M2 Halftrack the line just touches the edge of the track riding the rear idler wheel. On the M3 the back of the hull is about 10 inches aft of the idler wheel.
