18 Beaver Float Drain Plugs

The floats on the DeHavilland Beaver have multiple watertight compartments. Part of a proper preflight after sitting in water is to check pull the drain plugs and inspect the compartment for water leakage. If there is water in there it is to be pumped out by hand pump. To give the mechanic an idea of the severity of the leak should there be one the pilot would pump the leaking compartment dry and then 24 hours (or a week if it is a slow leak) later pump it out again into a container and measure out the contents in quarts or gallons and report it to the mechanic.
